The Old Hokonui Moonshine is born out of a remarkable chapter in New Zealand history — the Gore District endured over 50 years of prohibition, during which illicit moonshine was secretly distilled in the Hokonui Hills. Today, that spirit lives on legally and exclusively. Unlike whisky, moonshine is unaged — this is the pure grain spirit distilled from a barley wash by Steve Nally, crafted as close as possible to Mary McRae's original recipe.
